Finding a familiar name in an old race result is a great moment. Finding them again in another race, perhaps years later, starts to tell a story.
Our new My Athletes feature helps you bring those discoveries together, building a running history from the records you find on Sporting Roots.
You can now create private athlete profiles for yourself, a relative or someone you’re researching, then assign saved records to them. Each profile brings those results into a race timeline, making it easier to follow their appearances across the years.
As you add records, the profile summarises the number of results and named events, the years represented, their best recorded finishing position and their fastest recorded times for each event.
These summaries reflect the records you’ve assigned, rather than a complete sporting career. Event names can also cover different courses or distances, so the fastest times aren’t necessarily verified personal bests, but they’re a useful starting point for exploring someone’s running history.
There’s also space for private research notes. Keep track of club memberships, variations in a name, family connections or questions you’d like to investigate. Profiles and notes are visible only to your account.
Your saved records remain available as a separate collection, so you don’t need to assign everything straight away. If you’re unsure whether two results belong to the same person, keep them saved until you’ve found more evidence.
We’ve also added small Remove buttons beside saved records. You can change an athlete assignment, leave a record unassigned or remove it from your collection altogether. Deleting an athlete keeps their records in your saved collection, and none of these actions removes the original result from the Sporting Roots archive.
To get started, sign in and open My account → My athletes. Create a profile, then head to Saved records to assign your discoveries.
